New Rule To Improve Transparency for Pet Air Travel

A new rule recently issued by the Department of Transportation (DOT) may make air travel safer for pets.  According to the final rule, covered air carriers will be required to report all incidents involving the loss, injury, or death of an animal during air transport.

The new rule will apply to both cats and dogs transported as a pet by its owner and also includes commercial shipments.  This rule is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2015.

All U.S. carriers which operate scheduled service with at least one aircraft with a design capacity of more than 60 seats will be required to file a calendar-year report with the USDOT.
