Investigation Reveals No Disclosure Requirement for Pet Medicine Industry

A recently published investigation by The Indianapolis Star reveals that the “pet medicine industry is allowed to engage in marketing practices banned in human medicine” according to the IndyStar. Under federal law (the Physician Payments Sunshine Act of 2009), drug companies are required to publish all payments made to physicians of more than $10 but this rule does NOT apply for payments made to veterinarians.

The Physician Payments Sunshine Act is designed to enhance patient safety by increasing transparency in the relationship between physicians and manufacturers of drugs.
