New Bill Proposes Statewide Ban On Declawing Cats In New York

A new bill was recently introduced by Assemblymember Linda B. Rosenthal (D-Manhattan) which seeks to ban the declawing of cats in the state of New York.  If the proposed legislation is enacted, New York would become the first state to ban the procedure of declawing cats statewide.  Both veterinarians and pet owners would be in violation if the procedure is performed except when done for medical reasons.

The proposed legislation will be first considered by the Assembly’s Agriculture Committee.
