Mars Incorporated recently announced that they have entered into an agreement to purchase pet healthcare provider VCA INC (NASDAQ: WOOF) which operates nearly 800 animal hospitals with 60 diagnostic laboratories throughout the United States and Canada for a total value of approximately $9.1 billion.
If the transaction is approved, the deal would MERGE the top two veterinary hospital chains in the United States comprising more than 1,600+ Animal Hospitals. This represents more than 6% of all Animal Hospitals in the U.S.

“There are about 26,000 small animal veterinary practices in the United States, according to AAHA and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)”.
