New Law Requires Illinois Veterinarians To Provide Prescription Script

The state of Illinois became the 36th state to pass legislation that enables pet owners to choose where to purchase prescription drugs for their pets. Senate Bill 1827 (SB 1827) was recently signed into law by Governor Bruce Rauner on July 31, 2015.

Prior to SB 1827, “a veterinarian could refuse to issue a script to a pet owner and require that a prescription be filled through the veterinary clinic” according to a release from the office of Illinois State Senator Pamela Althoff which sponsored the pet prescription bill.
