CARE for Pets™ has recently launched IDENTITY,™ a searchable online database tool that tracks changes of ownership of veterinary practices. Our RESEARCH shows that the vast majority of practices that are sold to a new owner, fail to communicate changes in ownership on their individual practice websites to pet owners. Most practices that are sold, often retain their original company name and may purposely avoid ownership identification — identify with the local brand.

The vast majority of practices are sold to corporate consolidators – independent practices selling out to big corporations. Over the past decade, corporate consolidators which are mostly backed by private equity firms, have launched a large-scale effort to buy up small veterinary practices and consolidate them under the ownership of larger corporations. Typically, when a consolidator buys a hospital, they often require the selling doctor to stay at the veterinary practice for 1 to 4 years — selling doctor may have limited and or no control over decisions.

The company records contained within the IDENTITY™ app are based on the PRIOR owner — new ownership data is not provided. Please refer to our VERIFIED™ app for new ownership information. IDENTITY™ is currently only available for veterinary practices located in the state of Arizona — additional states will be available in the future.
