University of Florida’s Small Animal Hospital Earns Top Emergency Certification

The University of Florida Small Animal Hospital in Gainesville, Florida recently became the state’s first Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society (VECCS) Level I Certified Facility according to OCALA.com.  VECCS is a non-profit corporation which seeks to promote the advancement of knowledge and high standards of practice in veterinary emergency medicine and critical care.

The Level 1 Certification is the highest level designation from VECCS.  The certification program helps pet owners to compare different emergency and critical care facilities.

The $58 million, 100,000 square-foot facility opened about 4 1/2 years ago and treats more than 4,000 small animals each year.  About 80% of the patients are dogs and most of the rest are cats.
