U.S. Pet Care Industry Reaches Over $100 Billion in Sales for the First Time

The American Pet Products Association (APPA), a leading trade association of the pet products industry recently RELEASED the annual industry-wide spending figures for year 2020. According to APPA, “the industry has reached over $100 billion in annual sales, the highest level in industry history.”

In 2020, Americans spent a record breaking $103.6 billion in sales of pet products and services with a projected growth of 5.8% for the coming year (historical average is 3 to 4%).

Total U.S. Pet Industry Expenditures in 2020:

  • Pet Food & Treats: $42.0 billion.
  • Veterinary Care & Product Sales: $31.4 billion.
  • Supplies, Live Animals & Over-The-Counter (OTC) Medicine: $22.1 billion.
  • Other Services: $8.1 billion (includes boarding, grooming, insurance, training, pet sitting and walking and all services outside of veterinary care).
